Blaze - Then and Now by AndrewDickman Blaze - Then and Now by AndrewDickman
This just goes to show you how much my design work has improved over the ages... Blaze is a character in The Napalm Project series. I'm going to be doing a short comic pretty soon with him in it. The older drawings of these characters make my head hurt.

I drew that bottom piece of Blaze in 1998 during High School, colored him with colored pencils (although this is a greyscale piece) and the newer version was done in ballpoint pen.

It looks like he's about to snap-kick you across the face and, with that sadistic grin, enjoy every second of it. I love it. Filll it out and it'll look incredible. Keep it up.

Woah, uh, I can't really make much out of the sketch... so I can't do a comparison (but it's still cool ^^)^^; But, man, you rocked back in '98, too! The old design looks really awesome!

Its... Actually pretty hard to compare. Because the older one is much neater, while the newer is rough. Still, I prefer the older one. >>' For exactly that reason.

The old version may be more detailed, but it's nice to see a more updated version of your character. I like these kind of pictures where artists show how their style had evolved over the years.

the one from 98 looks more like it belongs in one of the Megaman games (you must like Megaman a lot :)) and the newer version looks like he got a major upgrade and then BAM! He looks way cool.

i like the newer version much better. the old one looks like a Megaman rip-off or something.

please, dont take offense to this thought or anything, its just an observation and as i recall, Megaman was well into its upward swing in popularity in '98....

in comparison, youve managed to keep the concept of the character in the newer version, but gave him a look that was all of your own

Really cool armor-upgrades on the latest version. Full of double-flametanks with powerful firepower. =D

Reminds about myself since high-school when I drew a "notebook comic" full of other types of Rockman Characters I've invented: Spike-Man, Splash Man, Rock-kid, Rock-shades, Rock-girl.... ah... good ol memories and such childhood dreams. ^___^

To tell the truth, I love them both. Sure, the newer one is better (especially the look of insanity) but they're both much better than anything I could even dream of creating.
You were awesume back then, you're incredible now.

Ballpoint! Yeah, you've definitely gotten a lot better if you could feel comfortable using something so permanent for a sketch. *looks sheepishly over at my pile of pencils of which the erasers have been rubbed into non-existance*
