Artist's Comments

Ever notice how cartoons are getting... crappier and less cartoony? I'm not saying everything on tv right now is crap, I mean I have my own biased opinions on what is cool on tv right now... But am I missing the humor? It all seems so stale now, and now actual cartoons are becomming less funny and original, and more talky and more like Spongebob rips... Adult cartoons have no form, almost little to no animation and the designs just looks so unappealing, why should we get interested in them? For the first time in awhile I was actually watching some of the programming on tv to the point where the only thing interesting to watch was Rush Hour on TBS... (thank god I only rely DVD's as my regular television programming at my own home...)

With WB Animation shutting down and Cartoon Network looking towards more realistic settings, I'm suddenly reminded of the depression... And thus, sparked this piece about cartoons. The magazine reads: "Cancelled: Toons, a dying breed." and the newspaper reads: "Hard time 4 Toons"

But hey, it's not ALL bad. As long as there's work, I'm alright. Let's just hope I didn't speak too soon there *latches onto his Storyboard position*

i agree - the new stuff - well, there are some good stuff out there, but the most is like commercial - not much fantasy and humor - i am everytime happy when i see some old roadrunner movies etc :)..maybe the future brings some better stuff.

Flash is a good tool, but then again, I have yet to see a majority of Flash animation with attractive designs... That's what bothers me alot about Flash, really. There ARE good artists out there and GOOD Flash cartoons, but still... if it doesn't have good story, and good design, it really doesn't give off much appeal.

I've found myself pretty much sticking to Boomerang for my cartoon fix. Dexter's Lab, I think Powerpuff Girls are there, too. It's a great channel, but I am a little worried that I have to go back years ago for good cartoons anymore.

I agree. With more serious-toned anime in Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, and more action-oriented toons coming, Funny and original cartoons are now a dying breed. That's one of the reasons I condemn Dragonball Z for this. It's the show that proves that more serious action shows sells. And that's also why classic cartoons like Bugs and Daffy are cancelled and done to DVD.

It's a bad time to be an animation fan.

In Cartoon history class, they showed us the old school cartoons like Merry Melodies, Popeye, and even the 13 or so Superman Cartoons, and from what I'v discovered, from all the crap we are fed on TV now adays, the old stuff holds so much more humor because its something people now adays feel is radical or not needed in cartoons today. (Like in the Sinbad the Salior cartoon where they made some kind of wacky steriotype of Italians with the two headed oger.)

Its a sad thing but if someone where to show kids a epesode of something like Foster's, there would be some laughs or at best a chuckle. But if they we're then shown a old B&W cartoon from like the 50's people would be busting a gut from all these wacky jokes that they have either never seen before in today's cartoons or by just how silly the consept of the joke is.

..Enough of my rambling. Nice image dude, awesome message.
