TOASTY by AndrewDickman TOASTY by AndrewDickman
I've always been weirded out as well as fascinated by some of the toy designs that've come out lately. especially for those "toy art" type stores that always have a collection of weird things. Some I really admire and some are.. well... they are... I'd love to get my own toys made, but it's gotta be a difficult position, financially and professionally.

I love these esspecially the green guy. It's not costly to make the protoypes from Sculpy... at least then you could decorate your studio etc. with them. ;)

That one on the right sort of reminds me of the Prince from Katamari. Only not.

Well...I must say the same thing about these as I do about those "space monkey" things. You know what they are if you've gotten to the Cut Chemist area in THUG 2.

What the heck are those?

FAO Schwarts in NYC has an entire SECTION devoted to these weird little toys. They were all clever to an extent, but on a certain level, i found them disturbing...they were the kind of toys that you would have nightmares about.

I'm really digging these! They remind me somewhat of Dehara Yukinori's "Pop Yokai" handmade toys. Very cool!

Yes Andy awesome. There is a series of little figures that they dispense in Japan from vending machines. Pete Fowlers whom was mentioned before are among them. Here's a link to a site that has them for sale, they are similar to what you drew here (different but along the same idea) anyway figured you might like em.

Yeah I've seen these before, I almost got a few (I just hate the whole 'random figure in an enclosed box' thing)

They are random? Oh well, I actually haven't seen one that I haven't liked from that series, doesn't mean tha it doesn't exist though. I suppose if you wanted one in particular there is always ebay....

That's the only thing I hate about JP Toys, they always make cool looking figures, but then they always put them in enclosed boxes so you can't see what you are getting. :(

The toy industry actually pays well for concept artist and designers. I'd recommend getting a portolio together and tossing it out; nothing bad could ever happen, right ? I think you've got what it takes, and if you really want it, I feel you can make it yours. =D

I remember seeing loads of shops with those cool viyal toys in New York, and almost bought some of the less expensive ones. I'd love to design toys like that, too.
